High Wind Warning

Areas Affected: Central Siskiyou County

NWS Medford (Southwest Oregon and Northern California)

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 3 PM PST THIS AFTERNOON...

* Winds: South 40 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph.

* Timing: Winds will peak early this afternoon.

* Locations include: The southern Shasta Valley, including Weed, Gazelle, and portions of Interstate 5 and Highway 97.

* Impacts: Strong winds may make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Loose items may be blown about. Property and tree damage is possible.

A High Wind Warning means a hazardous high wind event is expected or occurring. Sustained wind speeds of at least 40 mph or gusts of 58 mph or more can lead to property damage. Travel will be impacted, especially for high profile vehicles.


High Wind Warning

Areas Affected: Lassen-Eastern Plumas-Eastern Sierra Counties; Surprise Valley California

NWS Reno (Western Nevada)

...HIGH WIND WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 AM TO 8 PM PST FRIDAY... The National Weather Service in Reno has issued a High Wind Warning, which is in effect from 10 AM to 8 PM PST Friday. The High Wind Watch is no longer in effect.

* Timing: Friday morning through Friday evening.

* Winds: Widespread south winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Gusts to 75 mph in wind prone areas. Sierra ridges will likely see gusts over 100 mph.

* Impacts: Winds will cause travel impacts for high profile vehicles in addition to turbulence, wind shear and mountain wave activity for aviation. Winds may be strong enough to cause damage and blow high profile vehicles over, especially along the Highway 395 corridor.

Now is the time to secure loose outdoor items such as patio furniture, holiday decorations, and trash cans before winds increase which could blow these items away. The best thing to do is prepare ahead of time by making sure you have extra food and water on hand, flashlights with spare batteries and/or candles in the event of a power outage.

...HIGH WIND WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM PST THIS EVENING... ...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM PST THIS EVENING...

* Winds: South to southwest 35 to 45 mph with gusts up to 75 mph in the warning area. Winds will be slightly weaker in the advisory area.

* Timing: Winds will reach a peak this afternoon, and weaken through the evening.

* Locations in the Warning include: Highway 31 in the vicinity of Paisley to Summer Lake, Highway 299 at Cedar Pass, and the higher terrain of the Fremont Winema National Forest, and the Hart and Warner Ranges.

* Locations in the Advisory include: All other areas, including Klamath Falls, Lakeview, Alturas, Chiloquin, Tulelake, Bly, Chemult, and Fort Rock.

* Wind impacts: Gusty winds may make travel difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Loose items may be blown about.

A Wind Advisory means that winds of 35 mph are expected with higher gusts possible. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.
