Yuba County Sheriff Sergeant injured during struggle with suspect

LINDA, CA. – A Yuba County Sheriff Seargeant was transported by ambulance to a local hospital for injuries sustained during a struggle with the suspect of a motorcycle pursuit in East Linda, according to the Yuba County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect, identified as Thomas Giboney, 30, of Linda, was arrested by deputies for the Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Assault of a Peace Officer, and Felony Evading.

The incident began on Nov. 18 just before 1 p.m. when a Yuba County patrol deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Giboney. He fled on a motorcycle eastbound on North Beale Rd. from Hammonton-Smartsville Rd.

Officials say the pursuit ended when Giboney crashed the motorcycle on Alberta Ave.

Deputies attempted to detain Giboney, who became combative. Giboney pulled a Sheriff Sergeant into a flooded ditch, where he physically assaulted and held the Sergeant underwater. Deputies assisted and rescued the Sergeant and took Giboney into custody.

The Yuba County Sheriff's Department says the sergeant was released from the hospital Friday morning after undergoing treatment for minor injuries, including water aspiration.

Giboney was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and was later booked into the Yuba County Jail.

His bail is set at $1,125,000.
