Paradise businesses are not seeing the same increase in customers as previous years with the Paradise on Ice rink

PARADISE, Calif. - Several Paradise shops and restaurants are not seeing the same increase in business this year with the Paradise on Ice rink.

The ice rink may attract hundreds of people on their busiest days, but several local shops tell Action News Now they haven't seen an increase in business, even with Ice rink Manager, Lorrennis Leeds encouraging skater to do so.

“We send them off to go get food at Grocery Outlet and they just opened up a couple of weeks ago, maybe a few days prior to us opening up," said Leeds.

Several local shops like Holiday Market, DYE Hair Salon, the Skyway Antique Mall and others tell Action News Now that they have not experienced that surge.

Fiesta Taco, a Paradise Mexican-food truck on the other hand, has benefited from the rink and is stationed in the parking lot outside of the rink at least two times a week.

“Not too many people are around, not too many businesses. Nobody came, but only me because everyone wanted me here, so I’m here," said Adraen Torres, the Owner of Fiesta Taco.

Torres tells Action News Now that the ice rink keeps inviting him back for their busiest nights.

“People here know me and people like the food, so people come to try it and say good food. Thank you and when people come up and tell me that, then I feel good. They say good food, I feel good, so I still come out here and make it every morning," said Torres.

Several businesses shared with Action News Now that the increase in people in town coming to the ice rink is less than previous years, and many say they think it's because of the new Chico Ice rink in the Plaza.

The Paradise on Ice rink will stay open through Jan. 17 of next year in the Terry Ashe Recreation Center off of Skyway.
