Dixie Fire continues to burn near Mineral, Mill Creek

MINERAL, Calif. - Layers of smoke covered the Mineral area Thursday as CAL FIRE said it has crews stationed in the area who are looking out for hot spots ahead of the fire.

"If it is coming this way through mill creek, we might be able to have some embers that can go about 2 miles ahead of the fire, sometimes even further,” CAL FIRE information officer David Janssen said. “So, these crews are kind of patrolling around seeing if there are any hot spots that are popping up and making sure there are no additional fires ahead of the flame front."

Clarissa Ortner lives in Mill Creek.

She said seeing all the smoke gives her anxiety and hopes the Dixie Fire spares her community.

"It is so close to home and you are actually watching the map and making sure it doesn't come in my direction is scary and after hearing family after family talking about having lost everything, you can't even fathom I,” said Ortner.

On Tuesday, the town of Mineral was put under an evacuation order and that order remains in effect today.

In less than a month, the PG&E worker who first spotted the Dixie fire flames is set to testify in the investigation into how this fire started.
