CHICO, Calif. - Chico State Men's Basketball tied a program-best 10-0 start with a 61-55 win over Stanislaus State.
The Wildcats also started 10-0 back in the 1942-43 season. Sunday's win marked Chico State's school-record-breaking 11th straight regular-season CCAA victory.
Chico State played its first game in over two weeks and looked a bit rusty early on. The 'Cats only made nine buckets in the first half. Instead, they relied on a stout defense.
The Wildcats clawed their way back in the second half thanks to Guard Colby Orr. The Junior scored a career-high 19 points, including four threes, in the final 16 minutes of the game.
Seniors Malik Duffy and Isaiah Brooks also scored in double figures, with 12 and 13 points respectively. Duffy also tallied 11 rebounds.
The Women's team also beat Stanislaus State 67-58, advancing to 5-5 on the season.
The Wildcats trailed the Warriors by seven heading into the fourth quarter.
Chico State knocked down five threes in that final period, 14 total, to squeak out the victory. Four players made at least three triples, including Freshman India Starr who made a team-high four.
All in all, the Wildcats outscored Stanislaus State 25-9 in the fourth quarter.
Starr finished with a career-high 15 points and Freshman Morgan Mathis scored 11. Junior Haley Ison delivered a balanced attack of 13 points, 8 rebounds and five assists.
Both teams hit the road to face Cal State East Bay this Thursday. The women tip off at 5:30 p.m. and the men play after at 7:30 p.m.
