BUTTE COUNTY, Calif. – Butte County has a new Undersheriff. The person in that role is the second in command of the Butte County Sheriff’s Office.
The job has been vacant since January of 2020.
Sheriff Kory Honea has promoted former Lieutenant Matthew Calkins to the administrative post. Calkins has worked for the Butte County Sheriff’s Office since 2007.
He has worked as a deputy, sergeant, and lieutenant. He has worked patrol, in addition to participating in the Felony Investigations Unit, the SWAT Team, and the Civil Division.
Calkins has a Bachelor’s degree from California State University, Chico in Criminal Justice. In addition, he has a Juris Doctorate degree from Cal-Northern School of law and is a licensed attorney.
