CHICO, Calif. - An investigation is underway at the Chase Bank on East Avenue in Chico after an ATM was damaged early Wednesday morning.
The Chico Police Department said the report of the damaged ATM came in at 4:53 a.m. at 850 East Ave.
Witnesses saw a group of subjects vandalizing the drive-up ATM while trying to break into it, according to Chico Police.
Police arrived on scene about two minutes after getting the call and saw the ATM ripped open, money lying on the ground around the machine, and an unknown amount of money was stolen from the ATM.
Witnesses provided a description of the suspects vehicle which was found parked and unoccupied about half a mile away by police.
Police do not have anyone in custody but said there were multiple suspects wearing dark clothing with hoods. Police believe the suspects may have switched vehicles and drove away from the scene in an unknown vehicle.
“Our branch remains open and we’re working closely with local officials who are handling the investigation,” Chase Bank said in a statement to Action News Now.
