CALIFORNIA - California will require its healthcare workers to get their booster shot for COVID-19, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Twitter Tuesday.
Newsom said the mandate comes as COVID-19 cases are on the rise and the omicron variant has become the dominant strain in the U.S.
On Monday, federal health officials said the omicron variant accounted for an estimated 73% of new infections last week.
More information will be available tomorrow when the official announcement is released, Newsom said.
