CHICO, Calif. - The California State University announced it will be requiring all students, faculty and staff to receive a booster shot for COVID-19 for the spring semester.
California State University, Chico confirmed it will require the booster dose.
The update to the vaccine policy will require boosters to be received by Feb. 28, 2022, or six months after receiving the final dose of the original vaccination.
CSU Chancellor Joseph Castro said the requirement comes from the rapid rise in COVID-19 cases throughout the state and nation as the omicron variant has become dominant.
“Implementing the booster requirement now will help mitigate the potential spread of the variant on campuses as they repopulate in January after the winter break,” Castro said in a news release.
Just like the original vaccination policy, students and employees can seek exemptions for medical and religious grounds.
