defensible space around your home is no longer*jus* a good idea in paradise - it's the law. action news now's stephanie lin breaks down what it means for people living in the community on the ridge. check out what i'm standing in right now& lots of plants& shrubs& dead trees on this paradise property& but once november rolls around& much of this is expected to disappear& by law. town council passed a new ordinance tuesday night& and under the new rules& you must have 100 feet of defensable space. you*ca* have plants, trees planted a distance apart from one another so it is not a fire hazard& wood fences cannot connect closer than 5 feet to your home. i feel that our council is doing what our community has asked us to do and that is to rebuild in a way that is safer for our residents. absolutely. especially when they clarify and say it is not devoid of vegetation&it doesn't seem like it would be something difficult to do. # the ordinance is expected to go into effect the second tuesday of november& close to the one year anniversary of the camp fire. i'm told the fire department will be responsible for enforcing the new rules. and they intend to inspect every property over a three year period. live in paradise, stephanie lin, action news now. again - defensible space means 100 feet around your home and wood fences cannot connect closer than 5 feet to your home.# ten months after
