new tonight - for nine months, an espn film crew has followed paradise high football players - from the ashes of the camp fire - to their triumphant return to the field. tonight, that documentary debuted on espn. action news now reporter laura eng joined the team for their viewing party. we came back strong, and i think we're gonna come back stronger and stronger each year. the paradise high school bobcats... it's a story of rebuilding, rising up, after the camp fire. for months, espn, followed the football team, and made a documentary about its return to campus called paradise, from the ashe*. player: watching it growing up and then one day being on it, being on e60 specifically just blow me away. coach: to us, it's like, of course we're going to come back, but to them it's like a huge story. the team packed up their gear after practice and watched the documentary together for the first time. the big thing i think everybody should take from this is how everybody is perservering. everyone went through a huge fire and we're here for each other. and nearly one year after the camp fire, coach prinz still works hard to inspire his players not only on, but off the field as well. we talk a lot about we're not going to be victims. we're gonna move forward, but the kids still live it because only three of them live in town. laura: coach prinz said last year he had about 50 players on his team. this year he expected about half of that, but actually this year he has about 40 players on this year's team. everyone else is displaced now, like i live in nord california with my brother. but no matter the distance, no matter what they went through, these players were determined to come back. they do it, not just because of the program, the high school, but because of the community too, you know. coach: we just gotta do, just like everything before the fire, just one step at a time. laura: the next paradise high school football game will be this friday at 7pm. it will be a home game. reporting in paradise laura eng action news now. in that game friday night, paradise hosts sparks high school from nevada. ###
