a close eye on a fire that sparked along the skyway on the edge of chico this afternoon. good evening, i'm hayley watts and i'm alan marsden.. action news now reporter stephanie lin is live where the flames began, stephanie what's the status of the fire now? one camp fire survivor i spoke with said when he saw the smoke, it sent chills down his spine.. but good news to share at this hour& as you can see behind me, the fire that sparked just hours ago&that, fire officials tell me, is under control. this happened right between skyway and 20th street, east of bruce road. the flames started earlier this afternoon at roughly 1 pm. scorching a total of 26 acres. a division chief on scene told me all forward progress on this fire has been stopped. now fire crews are working on mop up, and getting rid of hot spots. anytime we have a fire in the skyway area, there's always the potential to take off. it started off small, started in the green&as soon as it got into the dry grass it started to move pretty quickly northeast. # 11 engines, from chico fire and cal fire, attacked these flames from all sides, including from the air. now the scary thing about this is&this fire was not too far from standing structures& to give you an idea& the raley's is just about a mile back that way. and paradise& that's about 9 miles in front of me. fortunately the winds today were nothing like the ones gusting the day of the camp fire& and firefighters have been able to extinguish these flames behind me. live in chico, stephanie lin, action news now. # chico fire fighters tell us they will be monitoring the area for the next several hours. #
