some big changes are coming to downtown redding. in an area already strapped for parking - the city plans to demolish its parking garage this fall. action news now reporter elizabeth zelidon went out to ask community members what they think. alan we've been talking about the changes to downtown for a while... but now that we are close to seeing more than 600 parking spots completely wiped out people say they're concerned with what that can mean for an area that was finally seeing some positive growth. (nats) foot traffic in downtown redding has increased over the last few months. but now that the city is getting closer to demolishing a 600 space parking structure in the middle of downtown its causing some concerns. sot: "it would be awful we would have so many people that would have to walk so far and i dont even i dont even know what people would do." the city is set to convert the corner of placer street and california street into a mixed used building that will bring housing and a new business to downtown. but now businesses are wondering where their current customers and employees would park. sot: "especially on trivia nights and when we do events throughout the week and cedar crest just opened up so that big brewery down there i mean that could affect hundreds of people that come through here every week." and its not just business that are alarmed with the shrinking parking numbers... but everyone walking around. saying the love seeing downtown grow... but the lack of parking could cause them to stay away. sot: "not overall but definetely more frequently ya if there is not enough parking and we cant find a place to park that's close enough in a ten minute walk then we probably wont be coming down here at all," everyone we spoke with adds they just hope a compromise is in the horizon. businesses say for now they will just
