weather... thursday was yet another day of typical july heat, with valley highs in the 90's. we'll see those temperatures warm up a little bit over the next few days, and that slow warmup may continue into next week, as mother nature turns it up just a bit! high pressure over the west coast is keeping our skies sunny and our temperatures seasonably hot. this ridge of high pressure will begin to strengthen over the next few days. look for valley highs in the 90's again on friday. this weekend, our highs will warm into the middle 90's to near 100 degree range. some monsoon moisture from the desert southwest will try to sneak northward, beginning on sunday. this would cause mountain thunderstorms. monday looks like the best chance of that happening, although i still think most of the activity will be south of us, towards the central and southern sierra nevada. still, there's a chance we could see a few mountain thunderstorms between sunday and next tuesday, and we'll continue to track that. valley highs will continue to heat up next week. look for highs in the upper 90's to 104 degree range for most of next week, with the hottest temperatures in the north end of the valley, around redding and red bluff. the thunderstorms threat in the mountains should end by wednesday, and the upper levels winds turn more westerly, which should push that monsoon moisture eastward, into nevada. thanks kris vanessa romo is here now with sports the open sports the open
