p-g-and-e took on wildfire prevention at an open house in chico tonight. action news now reporter laura eng spoke with several p-g-and-e customers at the meeting. oh it's very valuable, i mean you need to know what's happening around you, you can't just live in a little bubble. p-g-and-e met with more than one hundred customers in chico to talk about the community wildfire safety programs. p-g-and-e had several interactive stations about reducing fire risk... like showing the dangers of just being near a 12- thousand volt wire. laura: now take a look at this example behind me over here, it shows this figure doesn't even have to get in touch with the wire, you can see how the electricity passes right through it. we spoke with several customers about what concerns they had... i was mainly concerned with finding out what the ramifications were for the power outages that they're talking about doing here in chico and elsewhere. she said power outages affect elderly people's needs. there are a lot of people out there in chico and elsewhere that have medical devices that have power. p-g-and-e also spoke about their public safety fire shutoff program ... the utility put this into effect just last week in butte county. i think pg&e has a good plan to notify us, but it's very very important to think ahead of time and have a plan. one customer told us she was worried about not being able to use the medical devices she needs during an outage. pge says this is for safety. well these things are for safety also. we asked p-g-and- e about the customer concerns. one of the purposes for having the notification is so people can make these arrangements. you can have a winter storm or a wildland fire that causes power outages with really no notices at all. laura: pge will have one more open house in chester on thursday. reporting in chico, laura eng, action news now. that open house laura was just mentioning will be held at the veterans memorial hal* on
