happy mother's day to all of you momma's out there -- and if your kids gave you a gorgeous boquet for the occasion? action news now reporter luna nas shows how we can keep the flowers blooming and alive for a lot longer. luna: what better way to show mom love and appreciation through a bright bouqeut of flowers -- some people will tend to stay away from buying them well because they will eventually die*na* but melissa heringer, owner and florist at christian and johnson in chico*na* says there are some ways to make them last longer. mh: i would say the number one thing is to keep them them in a cool spot away from any drafts, keep them away from say a ceiling fan or away from an open window because any air moving over the petals is going to cause them to wilt a little faster luna standup: cutting the stem at an angle will also help the flower last longer. nat mh: you want the stem to be fresh immediately before it goes in water and if you cut it at an angle it will be sure not to sit flat against the bottom of the vase so itll give it more surface area to drink from luna: using lukewarm water can help the flowers stay fresher& mh: if you see the water level, getting pretty low in the vase be sure to remove the cloudy water put more water in and fill the vase to the top.. luna: as for the type of flower heringer says some do last longer than others. mh: there are flowers that are more fragile and there are some flowers that are more hardy --- some of the common hardy fowers are things like carnations, chrysanthemums, alstroemerias, some that you see more commonly and some of the more fragile ones tend to be tulips peonies, hydrangea rosesãthings that are considered the more premium blooms. luna: while flowers will eventually die & they sure to put a smile on mom's face and you can enjoy them for as long as you can. reporting in chico. luna nas. action news now. thanks luna -- another fun
