Water has begun to seep down the Oroville dam spillway for the first time since the Oroville Dam spillway crisis in 2017.

morning. lauren lauren this season's rain and snow melt... will be the first real- world test for the oroville dam. boxes action news now reporter laura eng joins us from outside our studio in north chico. laura you were in oroville earlier this evening where the attention is on the new constructed spillway. reporter live lauren, people are keeping a close eye, especially with this rainy weather. vo today was the first time water trickled down the new spillway ... our cameras caught the first streams of water coming down the chute early this morning. the california department of water resources said the gates are designed to allow small amounts of water to pass through.. once the lake reaches 813-feet above sea level. and tonight it stands at 814 feet. we spoke with a man who works at a restaurant in oroville .. he said the water trickling down the spillway didn't concern him ... sot full not really surprising to me. i happen at some point. we have the rainy season at this point, so i mean ... it's thicker, it has more concrete, it has more anchors and rebar than the original design. we've spent an awful amount of time and effort, had the best minds of people on the reconstruction and that's why we're confident we're going to be able to handle flows. the lake is projected to reach 835 feet by march 9th. right now five thousand cubic feet per second is being released from the hyatt power plant. reporter live
