debbie the city of chico has a big decision to make and very little time to do so. last friday ... a butte county judge ordered the city to repeal the ordinance regarding chico scrap metal on east 20th street ... or let the public vote to decide its future. action news now reporter darren leeds has more. pkg ory says, "the judge ordered the rescind it or put it on the ballot." the chico city council is on the clock ... and needs to make a decision quickly in regards to chico scrap metal. the ordinance which allowed the scrap yard to stay in its current location. council member karl ory says he has some questions for the city's attorney. ory says, "i have to ask whether or not his law firm represents chico scrap metal or the city of chico at this point. his attorney fees were paid for by chico scrap metal, probably around $100-thousand. i'm weigh in and advise us on what to do, but in the mean time lets meet." in order to setup a meeting ... the council must provide 24-hour public notice. time is ticking away and ory says it could end up hurting the city. ory says, "the council at this point has shown contempt for the people, and now they're showing contempt for the courts. it puts the city at a great liability. it is just amazing that we have yet to schedule a meeting, and we have a dealine of tuesday to do this." darren leeds ... action
