For our latest Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week segment, we pinned down a wrestler from Plumas County who's making a big impact on his small school. Action News Now's Ross Field has more.

Tucked away in the mountains of Plumas County lies the small community of Chester. It's population is 2,144. But there's more to this tiny tight-knit timber town than meets the eye. No, it's not Lake Almanor, or the wildlife, or the snow capped mountains. Here is home to Chester High School and senior wrestler Tony Rogers.

"It's beautiful and I wouldn't want to be anywhere else," said Rogers.

Makes sense because Rogers is a king here.

He won a Masters Title as a freshman, sophomore and junior, and now he's gunning for number four as a senior.

Only five wrestlers in Northern Section history have ever won four, but Rogers could become the only wrestler to do it in the same weight class all four years, 220-pounds.

"Once I won it my freshman year, I knew needed to work harder the next year and work harder the next year. Finally I'm to the point where I can make history and hopefully I can do it," said Rogers.

He's off to a good start. Rogers won the Corning Invitational this past week, pinning the Section's second-ranked wrestler in the 220's in the championship. But, Rogers has an even bigger goal in mind.

"Four Section Titles is cool and everything, but it's not what I want. More than anything I want to be a state champion," said Rogers.

To understand how Rogers got to this point, we have to go back to when he was a toddler. Rogers wanted to do everything his dad Tom did and Tom was a stud on the mat.

"I've been around wrestling for 14 years, it's in the blood. My dad wrestled for Villanova and for Foxcatcher. I just grew up with wrestling and fell in love it," said Rogers.

And dad, who is also his coach, sure is proud.

"I'm a very proud father, he's just a good hard-working kid. He's done well but we've got some more things to do before he closes out his wrestling career," said Tom Rogers.

Tony is even pinning his classes as he carries a 3.5 GPA. He'll wrestle somewhere in college and then he wants to give back.

"I hope to teach elementary school kids when I'm older and hopefully be a part of a wrestling program, be a coach. All these years I've been wrestling, now I want to go and give back to a small program and build them up to be one of the best teams in the area," said Rogers.

Don't be surprised if that happens at Chester High School after he made history as a senior.

Chester High's Tony Rogers is our Subway Scholar Athlete of the Week.
