UPDATE 2:16 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 - Here is the latest from the Associated Press:

LYON, France (AP) - Alex Morgan celebrated her go-ahead goal with a cheeky tea-sipping celebration and Alyssa Naeher stopped a late penalty kick to send the United States into the final at the Women's World Cup with a 2-1 victory over England on Tuesday night.

The top-ranked United States will face the winner of Wednesday's semifinal between the Netherlands and Sweden in the Americans' third straight appearance in the World Cup title match.

Christen Press, who was in the starting line after Megan Rapinoe was left off, put the United States up early in the match but Ellen White's goal tied it before 20 minutes had passed. Morgan's sixth goal of the tournament came before the break - and on her 30th birthday. She hadn't had a goal since she scored five in the team's 13-0 rout of Thailand to open the tournament.

It was also White's sixth goal but Morgan has the edge for the tournament's Golden Boot with three assists. White appeared to score her seventh in the 69th minute but video review determined she was offside - and the Americans in the crowd of 53,512 at Stade de Lyon roared.

UPDATE 2:02 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2019 - The U.S. women's team has beat England in the semifinal match 2-0.

---

LYON, France (AP) - Megan Rapinoe was not in the starting lineup for the United States in the Women's World Cup semifinal match against England on Tuesday night.

Rapinoe has two goals in each of the last two games for the United States and five for the tournament. She shares the lead for most goals at the World Cup with three others, including teammate Alex Morgan and England's Ellen White.

Rapinoe did not participate in pregame warm-ups.

U.S. Soccer did not give a reason for the change.

Christen Press started on the wing in front with Morgan and Tobin Heath. Coach Jill Ellis did not change her backline of Crystal Dunn, Becky Sauerbrunn, Abby Dahlkemper and Kelley O'Hara.

Lindsey Horan started in the midfield after coming off the bench in Friday night's victory over France, along with Rose Lavelle and Julie Ertz. Alyssa Naeher started in goal for the United States.

England also made a big change, replacing goalkeeper Karen Bardsley with Carly Telford. Bardsley has a hamstring injury.

Bardsley had not allowed a goal in England's last four matches in France.

Defender Rachel Daly and forward Beth Mead both started after coming off the bench in England's quarterfinal victory over Norway.

As expected, we had much quieter weather around northern California on Wednesday with plenty of sunshine, much weaker wind, and a wide range of temperatures. Thursday will be similar, but much more active weather is coming.
