UPDATE 3:27 p.m., Monday, Jan. 27, 2020 - The NBA has announced Tuesday night's Lakers game against the Clippers has been postponed out of respect for Kobe.

"The decision was made out of respect for the Lakers organization, which is deeply grieving the tragic loss of Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna and seven other people in a helicopter crash on Sunday," the NBA said in a statement Monday.

UPDATE: 2:42 p.m Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 - According to the Los Angeles County Sherriff's Department, there were nine people on board of the helicopter.

One pilot and eight passengers. No one on board survived.

UPDATE: 1:37 p.m Sunday, Jan. 26, 2020 - Kobe Bryant's daughter, Gianna Maria Onore, also known as GiGi was also on board the helicopter and died in the crash. She was 13 years old. 

Her teammate and teammates parents were on board as well as the pilot. No one on board survived.

(CNN) - Basketball legend Kobe Bryant, 41, died Sunday morning in Los Angeles, two separate sources told CNN.

TMZ reported Bryant was aboard a helicopter that crashed in Calabasas, California.

Five people were killed the crash on a hillside in Calabasas, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. There were no survivors, the Los Angeles County Fire Department said.

The sheriff's department received reports of the downed aircraft just after 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT), officials said in a tweet.

Flames have been extinguished, the department said.

Calabasas is about 30 miles west of Los Angeles.
