CHICO, Calif. -- A Pleasant Valley Viking put pen to paper Friday afternoon.

This comes after the Vikings' incredible volleyball 34-2 volleyball season, thanks in part to senior Makenna Joyce.

In front of family, friends and coaches, Joyce signed her national letter of intent.

Joyce will continue her beach and indoor volleyball career at Saint Mary's College.

The senior recorded over 200 kills, 70 aces and nearly 400 digs this season. She earned the Northern Section Player of the Year for the consecutive season.

Joyce was also one of our Subway Scholar Athletes of the week. She has a 4.0 GPA.

"I've been waiting since I was 12-years-old. I have been wanting to play Division I volleyball, so the fact that it actually came true and it's one of my dream schools," said Joyce. "I went to a camp there when I was really young, so the fact that I get to play there now is actually pretty cool."

"It's a testimony to having a plan, following through with the plan, and addressing your weaknesses," said Vikings' volleyball coach J.J Mitchell. "I mean she's all-section as a freshman and she has just measurably improved every year and goal set and did it. She's just a self made player.

In Mitchell's ten seasons as coach, Joyce is his first DI scholarship athlete.

A dry and warmer than average Presidents' Day and work week is expected as high pressure dominates our weather. High temperatures will make the mid to upper 60s and the next chance for rain isn't until next Sunday.
