CORNING, Calif. - Corning football is known for its run-heavy offense. This season will be no different.
"Anyone who knows Corning knows we like to run," senior running back Isidro Barajas said. "Expect a lot of that."
Barajas is one of four senior starters for the Cardinals. He's looking to build on his success last season.
"I put up some pretty good numbers," he said. "There was one game I had five touchdowns. It was a shortened season so not the numbers I was looking for but they were still good."
With a younger team, Head Coach John Studer is happy with his running back's leadership.
"As a run-heavy team, they're only going to go as far as they can take us," Studer said. "They've also come to understand that their success is a product of how the line does. They've learned to be really good leaders. How to try to keep the offensive line motivated. How to compliment those guys."
"Our offense is fast this year," Senior Fullback Fonsi Munoz said. "We have a lot of young kids but they're out here giving it all we got."
Some of the younger players include junior quarterbacks Jace Blankenship and Sam Schultz.
"One we're probably gonna designate as a quarterback," Coach Studer said. "The other one we'll use him almost as a flex player. He'll quarterback when we need him to. But he's also able to play halfback, wingback, and wide receiver."
While Jace Blankenship is expected to play the position more. Coach Studer says he's confident in either guy to lead the team.
Corning's first game is Aug. 27 against Paradise.
