CHICO, Calif --

The team brings a lot more experience this year. 13 upperclassmen on this roster compared to just four last year.

The team's leading scorer and rebounder is Junior Forward Stephen Schaefer averaging 12 points and eight rebounds per game.

This Panther squad comes a bit undersized, but head coach Abe Simmons and his team know how to combat that this year.

“We’ve got to rebound. We're a little undersized and rebounding is going to be crucial. We're going to need to do that, there's some big strong teams in our league and playing defense and making that our cornerstone…” said Simmons.

Chico’s next test comes on the road in the Novato tournament on Thursday. They’ll open the tournament facing Albany high school.
