When I was fully invested in covering sports for Action News Now, I thoroughly enjoyed attending prep and youth event. One reason was because I wanted to discover the next big thing. Who was going to be the next Aaron Rodgers? The next Emily Azevedo or George Maderos. Well, I think I may have found someone with the potential to make it big!

There are young people. There are students and there are athletes. But very few young people are world-class student-athletes. That is the case with Chico High School football player Abraham Del Real.

"You know I've always been a kid who wants to try my best at everything and even if I don't get it on the first try, I always want to try again until I can be my best," said Del Real.

The 6-foot-3, 175-pounder plays both sides of the ball and he's arguably the top wide receiver in the class of 2020 in the Northern Section.

"The first thing I like about Abe is he's a great kid. And he's very coachable. He listens and he does what you want. He's tough, he's got great hands and he's fast," said Jason Alvistur, head coach

Abe's passion for the pigskin began at a young age.

"It's everything! It's the physicality of it and I love going out there on Friday nights. just being able to play my heart out with my team. I love the camrarderie it builds. I love having bonds with all my teammates and you know just being a leader on the team, trying to do my best and make everyone better," said Del Real.

Del Real is blessed with God-given talent as he possesses a variety of natural skills that help him shine on the field, but he also understands how much work it takes off the field to stay on top of his game.

"I'm a multi-sport athlete. Iplay soccer right now and besides that I'm lifting weights on my own, I'm going on runs, I'm trying to get myself into different football camps, just get myself out there," said Del Real.

"You're going to get the full package with this young man. Integrity, family backing, character, hard work and athleticism," said Doug Williams, Principal.

"You know being a student I mean, there's definitely ups-and-downs in high school, you know that's just part of it. Being able to work for something that you want, that's what I enjoy, I like the grind of it," said Del Real.

Off the field and in the classroom, Del Real carries a 4.0 GPA.
