Chico State's Corey Silverstrom has scored 1,000 collegiate points. He hit that mark this year as a senior, becoming just the 18th Wildcat to reach the milestone. But as Action News Now's Ross Field shows us, Silverstrom has grown into much more than just a scorer.
"It couldn't have happened without my teammates. I have the best around me, the best coaching staff and the really make me the player that I am," says Silverstrom.
"Scoring that many points in a career is not an easy thing to do obviously. I'm extremely proud of him," added Coach Clink.
Chico State head coach Greg Clink praises the play of Corey Silverstrom. He's become one of the West Coast's top all-around Div-II players. And Corey says an intense offseason workout regimen that former Chico State pitcher Luke Barker used helped set him apart.
"I lifted every single day and I ate a lot. I had two protein shakes every single day, double the scoops, ate tons of veggies, chicken, salmon all that good stuff," says Silverstrom.
The pay off? Twenty pounds of muscle.
"He's put on weight, he's put on strength, and you can see it in his game. He's become more explosive, finishing better around the basket," adds Clink.
And Coach Clink says it's also helped Corey on the defensive end.
"He's got the ability to guard multiple positions, all kinds of guys different shapes and sizes and he's the guy we put on the other team's best player. And I feel like his increased size and strength has really allowed him to do that successfully," says Clink.
Sure enough, Silverstrom is closing in on a defensive milestone. He needs fourteen steals to reach 100, something that only eight Wildcats have done. But Corey says he'll trade in any individual milestone for more team success any day.
"My goal for this team is to win a National Championship. I'll be striving to reach that and doing my part every single day," says Silverstrom.
Silverstrom and the 9-2 Wildcats will close out the year against Cal State Dominguez at home at 2:00pm.
