CIF State Wrestling Tournament

CIF State Wrestling Tournament continues Saturday afternoon.

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. --  The 2020 State Wrestling Championship continued Saturday afternoon at Mechanics Bank Arena in Bakersfield. 

Jennifer Soto from Orland High faced Hailey Chapman from Lake Arrowhead in the 121 semifinals. Soto got the fall in just ten seconds to advance to the finals. 

She will defend her title against Selma's Melanie Mendoza. 

Orland High's Madison Fonseca lost in Friday's quarterfinals. She is now competing in the consolation rounds. Fonseca fought her way back to earn fifth place in the 126 weight class. 

Las Plumas' Shawntel Copple was the lone Thunderbird Saturday. She was also in the consolation rounds with three wins to take fourth in the 131 division. 

As for the boys' bracket, Durham High's Jacob Christensen competed in the 220 weight class. 

In the semifinals he beat Gabriel Carranza by a 5-3 decision. 

Christensen will face No. 3 Brandon Leon our of Roosevely High in East Vale.
