CHICO, Calif. - Coaches from Chico State, Sonoma State and Butte College helped raise money for baseball programs in Paradise on Saturday.

Dozens of kids, ages 8 to 18, signed up for the camp. It was offered free of charge, but players attending were encouraged to make a donation. All of the proceeds for the camp will go directly to Paradise High School, Little League and American Legion baseball programs.

The idea was developed two weeks ago when Chico Riverhawks representative Joe Bitker was approached by Rich Bordi of the Cincinatti Reds. Bordi had the support of the MLB Scouts Association and Sonoma State. Bordi asked the Chico Riverhawks Baseball Post 17 to contact area colleges and baseball programs to organize the event.

The Riverhawks reached out to area Little Leagues and area businesses for help. The Golden Valley Bank Foundation supported the efforts and estblished a link to donate their foundation to the baseball fundraiser. Taylor It Advertising coordinated some of the PR for the event.

Saturday the event was held with the help of the Chico Aces and the Chico Mavericks. $7,000 was raised to be used to rebuild baseball programs. They include the Paradise High School program, the Paradise Little League, and the Paradise American Legion Baseball program.

The Riverhawks will present checks to the three programs after the online fundraising in s completed. The deadline to contribute to this particular Camp Fire baseball support fund is January 31, 2019.
