CHICO, Calif. --
Chico and Pleasant Valley athletes and fans kicked off the 10th annual Almond Bowl Car Giveaway at PV High School Wednesday morning.
One lucky persno will win a brand new car donated by Chico Nissan Hyundai at the Almond Bowl. The winner can pick between a red Hyundai Kona or a white Nissan Kicks.
In its ten years of fundraising, Chico Nissan Hyundai have raised over 1.5 million dollars for the Panthers and Vikings' athletics program. Last year they raised more than $220,000.
“I'm extremely thankful," said Chico football player Abe DelReal. "The whole community really comes together for this fundraiser. The money we raise goes to great things. Our athletic program has really succeeded in the last couple of years thanks to this fundraiser.”
“It's helped us tremendously," said PV Sports Booster Laura Daugherty. "Every year we have been able to finish things up at the school like putting in new water fountains, getting a timing system for track. It helps every single sport here.”
Twenty dollar raffle tickets will be sold at each school as well as at the car dealerships.
A winner will be announced during halftime at the Almond Bowl Game on November 1.
“It's outrageous, excitement," said Daugerty. "It’s unbelievable, the excitement, it goes by super fast. There’s tons of people. Everybody is decked out in their blue and red. There’s so much enthusiasm. You have to come early to get a seat because it is packed.”
“Confidence is key," said DelReal. "So I really hope this year we walk out with a win. Our team is looking really solid this year, but so is P.V. so, im thinking it's going to be a battle.”
Chico High won the Almond Bowl last season 17-10.
