3 more inducted into Chico Sports Hall of Fame

The top sports figures throughout the community were celebrated on Tuesday at the 47th annual Chico Sports Banquet.

CHICO, Calif. - The top sports figures throughout the community were celebrated on Tuesday at the 47th annual Chico Sports Banquet. The banquet was attended by approximately 550 people at the Silver Dollar Fairgrounds in Chico.

Anne Stearns was named sportsperson of the year by the Chico Enterprise sports staff. The first-year athletic director was recognized for her efforts in leading the school’s athletic department following the Camp Fire.

Chico High boys soccer coach Ryan Flenner, former Chico State softball pitcher Haley Gilham and Pleasant Valley High alumna and UCLA beach volleyball player Lily Justine, who won a second straight NCAA championship with the Bruins on Sunday, were also finalists for Sportsperson of the Year.

Three people were inducted into the 2019 class of the Chico Sports Hall of Fame including Richard Trimmer, Joy (Jackson) Jones and the late Brett Silva.

Two senior athletes from local high schools, Chico State, as well as top sophomores from Butte College also received recognition during the banquet. The winning athletes were chosen by their respective school’s coaches and athletic staff.
