PARADISE, Calif. - A woman who went into labor during the Camp Fire is reflecting on her journey one year later.

Action News Now caught up with the mother and the paramedic that helped save her life.

Anastasia Skinner was stuck in her car on the Skyway when she started having contractions.

Mickey Huber, a paramedic in Butte County helped Skinner to an ambulance and then to the hospital.

Skinner only experienced contractions but did not go into labor.

A few weeks later, Anastasia gave birth to a baby girl. Her husband Daniel came with the idea to honor him in a special way, by making her middle name “Mickey.”

Now, one year later, Anastasia and Mickey reunited to reflect on their journey.

Anastasia told Action News Now, “I'm alright for the most part, it's still sad not to have my friends here but we've realized who sticks around and it's made our bond a lot stronger. He knows how I feel I always tell him how much I appreciate him and I am glad that we have him in our lives because I don't think we'd be able to raise her without his help.”

Mickey said he’s happy to be able to see Zoelle frequently. “I love seeing her, especially watching her grow. It's always nice to come out and spend the day here, it's relaxing and a step away from the normal chaos.”

The family said they meet with Mickey regularly at Degarmo Park to catch up. They hope to keep Mickey in their baby’s life.
