CHICO, Calif. – Police are investigating whether a Chico man was driving under the influence after officers found him trapped in his car, between a utility pole and a fence early morning Friday.

The collision happened around 4 a.m. in the area of 1340 W. Sacramento Avenue. Officers said when they arrived, a silver sedan was found wedged between a utility pole and a fence.

The driver, 24-year-old Harrison Kelsey, appeared to be injuries and could not exit the vehicle. Officers said they then had to extricate Kelsey from the sedan, but he became uncooperative with officers and medical personnel, so he was placed in a full-body restraint, according to Chico Police. Kelsey was then transported to the hospital safely.

Chico Police said they're conducting an investigation into the cause of the crash and whether Kelsey was under the influence of alcohol or drugs while operating a vehicle.

Kelsey was the sole occupant of the vehicle and his injuries do not appear to be life-threatening. Action News Now will provide updates as soon as they become available.
