SACRAMENTO, Calif. – A 36-year-old Yuba City man pleaded guilty Tuesday to possession of child pornography, acting U.S. Attorney, Phillip A. Talbert said.

On April 11, 2016, Scott Stephen Howard knowingly possessed visual depictions of minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct, according to court documents.

Howard is scheduled to be sentenced by U.S. District Judge John A. Mendez on June 29.

He faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison as well as a $250,000 fine, according to Talbert. The actual sentence, however, will be determined at the discretion of the court after consideration of any applicable statutory factors and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, which take into account a number of variables.

This case is the product of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Shea J. Kenny is prosecuting the case.
