YREKA, Calif. – An Anderson man was arrested Friday morning by a Yreka California Highway Patrol (CHP) officer in relation to a kidnapping incident.
The Yreka CHP was told by Oregon’s Ashland Police Department that a kidnapping suspect was believed to be traveling on Interstate 5 southbound in a silver 2005 Chrysler 300, along with a 17-month old victim. Officers believed the child was not in a safety seat.
37-year-old Desmond Thomas Cloyd of Anderson was apprehended in the Hilt area behind a Caltrans building, according to the CHP, who said the child was not harmed. Cloyd was taken into custody without incident.
The child has been returned to its mother at the scene of the arrest.
Cloyd was charged with multiple felonies including kidnapping, child abduction, and disobeying a court order.
