CHICO, Calif. - An intense van fire sent thick black smoke into the air on Yosemite Drive in Chico.

It caught fire around 2:40 p.m. Thursday. A passerby shot the video that shows flames consuming the van, parked in front of a home.

The person who shared the video told Action News Now the worker was safe, outside the van.

Chico Fire said the worker was inside the home when someone knocked on the door to let him know about the flames. He tried putting it out with an extinguisher while someone called 911.

Once firefighters arrived, it was knocked down within 10 minutes, completely extinguished in 20 minutes. No one hurt and the cause is believed to be engine related, accidental.
