"It always starts with a customer saying 'I want this', and in this case I had 2 customers asking for the top 2 super cars of 2017 in the entire planet," explained Bernie Knaus.
Burnie Knaus, owner of Chico's New Autos Inc had a challenge on his hands: Finding the 2018 McLaren 720S and the 2017 Ford GT for some ambitious customers.
"They're not hollywood elite or anything like that, they're hardworking local people right here in the North State and these two cars are going to stay here," said Knaus.
Knaus says his first reaction was that of excitement, but he knew it wouldn't be easy.
"My second thought was, the how the heck am I going to get them, almost nobody can get these cars," said Knaus. "There's less than 90 of the Ford GT and this is a launch edition of the McLaren."
More than 6,000 people applied to get this car, they even sent in videos explaining why they deserved it.
But about 2,000 billionaires learned that money really can't buy everything.
"You have to have really good relationships in the industry for sure because you have over a hundred times as many billionaires looking for cars that exist, they're all fighting for the same stuff," said Knaus.
"This car is made out of carbon fiber, it's 150 lbs lighter than a Volkswagen GTI yet it has over 750 horse power .... The tail lights are hollow so when you're going the air comes right out of here," said Knaus.
Thursday, the GT and McLaren sat in the display room on Main Street.
Passersby stopped in their tracks.
"It's been kind of crazy, we've had so many people that have showed up here," said Knaus.
And the revenue for the city for these types of sales? Up to 15 thousands dollars - quite a bit more then your typical family car.
"Even when you see them as the biggest car shows in the world ... To be able to see them in Chico and in an environment like this is very special and extremely generous of the owners, " said Knaus.
