REDDING, Calif.- A construction worker was struck by a vehicle on Monday at 1:33 p.m. at the intersection of California St. and Yuba St. and is being treated for serious injuries at Mercy Medical Center, according to the Redding Police Department.

A 39-year-old woman from Anderson was driving a Toyota Camry and stopped eastbound on Yuba St.

The driver proceeded to make a left onto California St. without knowing that portion was open to southbound traffic only. The driver attempted to veer away from oncoming traffic and drove through a chain-link fence and struck a 57-year-old construction worker inside the fence.

The worker was pinned by the Camry inside a utility trench and was later freed by emergency medical personal.
