PARADISE, Calif. - A frightening wake-up call for one family in Paradise. Strong winds and toppling trees early Monday caused a lot of damage to their property.
Snapped trees and scattered debris, is what homeowner, Jenipher Maggard, described it as. “It was crackling, snapping,” said Maggard.

Maggard said her son alerted her that something was wrong early Monday morning.
"About 4 a.m. my son got up to go to the bathroom and told me he heard something flashed and the power line went down.”
A few minutes later - a pine tree snapped. The tree then fell down and landed on Maggard's garage, tearing a hole through one of the walls.
A closer call for Maggard's son, who sleeps in a cottage that had a branch pierce through the roof. He was close to coming back inside.
“I was scared and then I had my door open and he had told me, mom, did you hear that?”
Firefighters responding to the call and told them it was unsafe and they needed to leave.
“I went to my mom's house in the bottom of Clark Road and hung out there until daylight came. Part of the tree blew over and went into the mailbox.”
Maggard may be dealing with some inconvenience but is thankful no one got hurt. Maggard said the tree was actually from her neighbor’s yard.
She estimates the damages to be in the thousands and is hoping insurance can cover the damage.
