CHICO, Calif. - Employees at Winco helped Chico police officers capture a shoplifting suspect they said was armed with a gun.

Officers first arrived at the store on E. 20th Street around 3 a.m. on Tuesday due to reports of a suspect trying to steal alcohol from the businesses.

Employees at Winco told officers when they tried to confront him, a loaded firearm fell from the suspect's pants pocket. The employees were able to retrieve the firearm and hold the suspect down on the ground until the officers arrived.

Authorities identified the shoplifting suspect as Jessie McNutt, 21. He was placed under arrest for shoplifting and possessing a loaded firearm.

We've had a mostly sunny valley with a few more clouds over the mountains today, but it's been another beautiful day with warmer highs than yesterday. Much warmer weather is headed our way this weekend... enjoy, but stay cool!
