Sun Fire: Latest Numbers

The Sun Incident consists of two fires are burning in Tehama County east of Red Bluff off of Hwy 36.

UPDATE 8:58 a.m. Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 - The Sun Fire is 3,889 acres and is 97 percent contained.

UPDATE 7 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2019 - Cal Fire says the Sun Fire burning east of Red Bluff is 76 percent contained. The acreage size did not increase and remains at 3,889 acres. All evacuation warnings have been lifted.

 

UPDATE 8:20 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018- The Sun Fire is now 3,889 acres and is 70 percent contained

UPDATE 12:56 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, 2018 - The Sun Fire is now 3,889 acres and is 60 percent contained.

UPDATE 5:14 p.m. Monday, Oct. 8, 2018 - According to a Public Information Officer for Cal Fire, The Sun Fire is now 3,889 acres and is 55 percent contained.

UPDATE 7:58 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - The Sun Incident fires have burned 3,848 acres. The fires as 40 percent contained.

UPDATE 6:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - The Sun Incident fires have now burned 2,500 acres, and is 30 percent contained.

UPDATE 5:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - 300 personnel are fighting the fire. CAL FIRE Shasta Trinity Unit is assisting the CAL FIRE Tehama Glenn Unit with this incident. The fire is burning on farmland primarily. There are two fires still actively burning.

UPDATE 5:29 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - All mandatory evacuations ordered for the Sun Incident are now "advisories" (as per CAL FIRE officials).

UPDATE 5:15 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - The Sun Incident has burned 700 acres of grasses in the valley and foothills east of Red Bluff. According to CAL FIRE officials, it is now 20 percent contained. We will have an interview with a Public Information Officer on our 6:00 p.m. newscast, which also streams live on this site.

UPDATE 4:08 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - CAL FIRE says there are now two fires in the Sun Incident. One is 250 acres and the other is 150 acres. Highway 36 has one way traffic controls, so please avoid the highway if possible.  Evacuation orders still in place for Stice Road and Andreini Road. An evacuation warning has been ordered for the Hogsback Road area.

UPDATE 3:25 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - According to CAL FIRE, the Sun Incident has burned 400 acres.

UPDATE 2:45 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - Action News Now reporter Spencer Joseph says structure protection is being conducted on Tuscan Springs Road.

UPDATE 2:03 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018 - According to officials at CAL FIRE, there are three fires burning. The largest is 50 acres. One of the others is 30 acres in size.

The fires started at Highway 36 and Sunriver Road. It is being called the Sun Incident.

There are evacuations in progress for Stice Road and Andreni Road. Evacuation warnings are in place for the Hogsback Road area.

The fire is heading in the direction of Antelope Creek and Hogsback Road.

TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. - A grass fire was reported to the California Highway Patrol that can be seen from several miles away. The incident has been transferred to CAL FIRE. Tehama County Sheriff's Office has personnel on the scene.

The incident was reported at 12:50 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2018.
