Washington joins multi-state review pact on COVID-19 vaccine
Three more states have joined California, in seeking an independent scientific review of any coronavirus vaccine approved by the FDA. Last week, Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a panel of scientists and public health experts would conduct reviews before any vaccine would be administered to the public. Nevada, Oregon, and Washington state are all now joining the “Western States Pact" for vaccine safety.
Across the country, new coronavirus cases are surging. The United States has added nearly 500,000 new cases over the past week, and about three-quarters of the states are trending in the wrong direction. Data from Johns Hopkins shows the U.S. broke its record seven-day average, with nearly 70,000 cases a day.
On Tuesday, the World Health Organization reported nearly three million positive cases in just the past seven days. It’s the shortest exponential increase in case numbers since the start of the pandemic, WHO officials said in a news release, but the number of new deaths is comparable to previous weeks. The U.S., Brazil, and Argentina are still reporting the highest number of new regional cases of Covid-19 and new deaths.
Wednesday will be a bit cooler than Tuesday with only a few reaching 80s in the valley, while the rest of us stay in the 70s. Light winds, dry conditions, and sunny skies persist throughout the day. Chilly this morning and overnight tonight in the Sierra-Cascades. Thursday will be a few degrees warmer for everyone, but only a few. Most reach 80 but some still stay in the upper-70s through the afternoon in the valley. Sunny skies remain. Most reach the low-80s by Friday, where we remain for the rest of the weekend and sunny.
