Impeachment hearings, day 2 recap

Day two of public impeachment hearings happened Friday morning. Former Ambassador to the Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch gave her testimony. According to a transcript, Yovanovitch told lawmakers privately that she was the victim of a smear campaign by President Trump and his allies that got her fired. 

Ranch Fire reaches 100% containment

The Ranch Fire, southwest of Red Bluff, is 100% contained. CAL FIRE said after almost two weeks, crews were finally able to get a handle on all the flames. CAL FIRE said steep terrain and dry conditions posed an initial challenge to its crews. In total, the fire which burned southwest of Red Bluff burned more than 2,500 acres.

Man faces 11 years in prison after shooting at police dog, resisting an officer

A jury convicted a Shasta County man of 15 felony counts. For shooting a police dog, prosecutors said Dillion Sullivan led Redding Police on a chase with a stolen vehicle last December. He drove into a dead end, where Anderson Police used a K-9 to arrest him. Police said Sullivan fired a shot from a revolver, shooting K-9 "Chance" in the ear, and punched the dog several times. He faces 11 years in state prison. K-9 Chance has since recovered from his injuries. 

Deputies arrest Oroville man for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor

An Oroville man is behind bars Friday morning after police arrested him for unlawful sex with a minor. Trevor McElhaney was arrested following an ongoing investigation that began in September where detectives say they learned the 28-year-old was suspected of having unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He is now facing two felony counts.

Free comedy show for Camp Fire survivors

Friday night, several stand up comedians will put on a free comedy show for Camp Fire survivors. The show is called "Laughing Our Ashes Off" The show is at the Paradise Performing Arts Center, doors open at 7:30 p.m., show starts at 8, and is expected to last 2 hours. The show is for mature audiences only.

Deadline for hazardous tree removal program approaching

The deadline to enroll in the hazardous tree removal program for Camp Fire survivors in burn scar areas is approaching. People can apply for the government tree program to have trees removed by the state at no out-of-pocket-cost. They just need a right-of-entry form for the government program. The deadline to enroll is Dec. 20.
