California to approve budget focused on education, fighting state fires

California lawmakers are poised to approve a framework for a $214.8 billion budget, which has a large focus fighting state fires.

PG&E to hold an open house in Chester to discuss wildfire prevention, safety

On Thursday, an informational open house by PG&E to educate the public about plans for wildfire prevention and safety will be held in Chester. That meeting will be from 6 - 8 p.m. at the Veterans Memorial Hall on 225 Gay Street. This is intended to cover Lassen, Plumas, and Sierra Counties.

Redding police searching for stabbing suspect

The hunt is on for a suspect in a life-threatening stabbing. Police said a woman is suspected of stabbing a man at the Parkview Market in Redding around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday. The victim is in the hospital listed in critical condition. Anyone with information is asked to call the Redding Police Department at 530-225-4200. 

Fire crews rescue a person from a house fire in Palermo

CAL FIRE Butte County crews rescued someone from a house fire. Flames broke out around 5 p.m. on Wednesday in a home in Palermo. Crews saved one person from the fire. They are now recovering from burns. Investigators determined the fire started because of oil that was cooking on the stove. 

Redding Police Department brings awareness to elder abuse

The Redding Police Department is working hard this month to bring awareness to the topic of elder abuse. The department is inviting everyone to their elder abuse fair this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Sundial Bridge. At the fair, people can ask vendors and police specific questions about the topic. 

House Oversight Committee holds Barr, Ross in contempt of Congress

The House Oversight Committee voted to hold Attorney General William Barr and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross in contempt of Congress. This comes after Barr and Ross were subpoenaed by the committee for documents related to the Trump Administration's plan to add a citizenship question to the 2020 census.
