A K-9 officer is being credited with helping Shasta Lake sheriff's deputies make an early morning arrest. The arrest happened in the area of Lake Boulevard and Hiatt Drive in Redding. Deputies spotted a car with an expired registration. Two of the three passengers, Derrick Steele and Kaula Reed, had warrants out for their arrest. Another was on probation for burglary and had an expired license. Deputies attempted to put Steele and Reed in handcuffs but Steele ran off, attempting to escape. The deputies deployed K-9 Hondo, who detained Steele. Steele is now behind bars in the Shasta County jail.

Authorities find missing hiker in Inyo County
A female hiker missing in Inyo County has been found, but now her story is raising more questions. Sheryl Powell is now in the hospital after search teams found her Monday. Her family reported her missing three days ago in the White Mountains. They say she became lost while trying to escape a man trying to attack her with a knife. The Inyo County Sheriff's Office has not commented on the claim of being chased.
