Butte County sheriff's deputies end an hours-long standoff in Nord

Butte County sheriff's deputies are at a house in Nord where a man is refusing to leave a house. Deputies said the man has two children in the house under the age of 10. We are working to confirm more information about the standoff. 

1 dead, K-9 injured in officer-involved shooting in Sacramento

An officer-involved shooting incident has left one man dead and a K-9 officer wounded after a gunfight outside of a mall near Sacramento. It happened at around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday outside the Sunrise Mall in Citrus Heights, near Sacramento. No one else was injured. An investigation is underway.

Authorities investigating potential earthquake-related death in Nevada

It has been four days since the last major earthquake rattled Kern County and there is now an investigation underway into a possible earthquake-related death in neighboring Nevada. Sheriff's deputies responded to reports of a man trapped under a truck in the town of Pahrump. It appeared the man had been working on the vehicle when the quake hit. His identity has not yet been released.

White House suffers setbacks in adding citizenship question to 2020 census

The White House has suffered another setback in its effort to add a controversial citizenship question to the 2020 census. Tuesday, a federal court refused to allow the justice department to change its team of lawyers in the case. The judge said the government had provided "no reasons, let alone satisfactory reasons" for making such a switch.

California becomes the first state to offer benefits to illegal immigrants

California has become the first state in the nation, to offer taxpayer-funded health benefits to adults living in the country illegally. State officials expect the plan to cover about 90,000 people and cost taxpayers $98 million. The law will cover only those whose income is low enough to qualify. 

New York parade honors US women's soccer team 

A parade honoring the US women's soccer team is happening in New York City Wednesday morning. The world champions beat the Netherlands 2-0 Sunday in the Women's World Cup. The latest win marks the team's second straight world cup win and fourth overall.
