Correctional officer arrested for sexual assault with 16-year-old girl

A Modoc County Correctional Officer has been arrested after deputies say he sexually assaulted a child. Modoc county deputies arrested Tristan Anthony Compton on Wednesday night. Investigators say Compton had an inappropriate relationship with a 16-year-old girl. Compton resigned from his position with the county and is set to be arraigned next week.

Chico Police arrest 2 people for Motel 6 murder in January

Two people are now behind bars in connection with a murder at a Motel 6 in Chico. A gunman shot and killed John Noonan at the Motel 6 on Manzanita Court, three weeks ago. Wednesday, police arrested Justin Cozakas and Monica Ruggeriero on charges of murder and conspiracy to commit murder. Investigators are not commenting on a motive.

Downtown Chico antique shop vandalized, caught on camera

Vandals targeted another downtown business. This latest incident happened early Wednesday morning at Country Squyres Antiques shop on 3rd street. And it was all caught on camera. Video shows the man-bashing the window 3 times. This was the second time a downtown business was vandalized in the past few weeks.

Calif. man free after DNA site leads to new arrest in murder

DNA evidence and updated crime-fighting techniques have led a judge to overturn a murder conviction of a man who spent 14 years in prison. A jury convicted Ricky Davis in 2005 of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of 54-year-old Jane Hylton. Davis was convicted largely on the testimony of his then-girlfriend, Connie dahl, prosecutors say genetic genealogy helped investigators determine the DNA evidence did not belong to Davis.

California voters can switch party status on election day

With the March 3 primary just a few weeks away, there’s a change for California voters. You can now register and change your party affiliation on the morning of the election. Governor Gavin Newsom signed the measure Thursday and it takes effect immediately. The change will allow the state’s 5.6 million independent voters to register with a party for the primary.

Coronavirus daily update

Chinese health representatives are confirming over 1,700 medical workers have been infected and six of them have died. In China, the death toll from the coronavirus has now reached close to 1,400 hundred people, with 121 more deaths Friday, alone. The total number of confirmed cases is close to 64,000 people.

All 4 federal prosecutors quit Stone case after DOJ overrules prosecutors on sentencing request

Controversy continues on Capitol Hill over comments made by the president about the sentencing of his longtime associate Roger Stone. In an interview Thursday, attorney general William Barr said the tweets from President Donald Trump not helping Barr do his job. Attorney General Barr is scheduled to testify before the house judiciary committee, March 31.
