California's COVID-19 death toll edges past New York

California now leads the nation in the number of deaths related to COVID-19 - surpassing New York. We have lost close to 46,000 people. These new numbers come in as coronavirus trends are showing a slight improvement in the state.

Chico State president to host virtual State of the University Address today

Chico State University President, Gayle Hutchinson, is set to present a virtual State of the University Address at 1 p.m. today. A town hall conversation with students, faculty and staff will follow the president's presentation. if you would like to attend, click here.

Regulators: Utilities to buy energy to prevent blackouts

California regulators have given the green light to a plan, allowing PG&E and other utilities to buy more power during the summer. The cost for that power could be handed down to us. The plan is to avoid a repeat of the rolling blackouts last August that left more than 800,000 people in the dark.

Audit: California should track homeless spending, set policy

The state auditor says the state, county, and city governments have spent $13 billion over the last three years to tackle homelessness. The auditor says the approach is so disorganized it could be hindering attempts to find stable housing more than helping. The state auditor is recommending giving more power to the state homeless council.

Travis AFB to conduct transfer to Space Force ceremony

A Northern California air force base is setting its sights on space. The Travis Air Force Base, in Solano County, will host a transitioning ceremony for airmen moving over to the newest branch of the military - the U.S. space force - they will become "guardians."

Biden and Harris discuss American Rescue Plan with governors and mayors

President Biden is set to meet with a group of bipartisan mayors and governors today to discuss - the American Rescue plan and getting support to communities. Among other items, the $1.9 trillion relief measure looks to offer checks direct to families, assist communities and businesses hit hard by COVID-19, and address affordable health care.

Trump's lawyers to offer a defense of the former President at impeachment trial Friday

Former President Donald Trump's legal team gets its turn at the Senate impeachment trial Friday, as Trump's lawyers prepare to argue that the trial of a former president is unconstitutional. Lawyers say they plan to use only one day. A shortened argument session could possibly set up a vote on whether to convict or acquit Trump – as early as this weekend.
