Fire crews contain flames in Chico home
Chico Fire is looking into a fire that made one home unlivable. Chico Fire responded to a fire that had started in the attic early Sunday morning and burned through the rafters. One person was found during the search throughout the home and was pronounced dead at the scene. Fire crews contained the flames, but say the home is no longer liveable. There were no other injuries in this fire.
Two men are waking up behind bars this Monday for stealing items from an old energy plant. Shasta County Sheriff's deputies said they found about 500 pounds of stolen copper wire on Robert Dale Cox Jr. and Robert Paul Milner. Deputies said the men targeted the site of 'Covanta', a former energy plant.
CHP wraps up the maximum enforcement period
The CHP's maximum enforcement period for the Thanksgiving holiday is officially over. Within the first 30 hours of the operation, which started Wednesday at 6 p.m., the CHP made 314 DUI arrests. As of Friday night, the agency reported eight deaths on our roadways. The operation wrapped up at midnight, we are working to get the latest numbers.
Gas prices decrease in North State
Gas prices in Chico have fallen 14.4 cents a gallon this past week, averaging $3.64, so says Gasbuddy and it's the daily survey of 76 different stations. Chico prices are 32.6 cents a gallon, lower than a month ago. In Redding, average prices are hovering right around $3.80 a gallon. However, here's the sting, the national average for gas is running just about $2.58 a gallon.
CAL FIRE complete readiness drills over holiday weekend
CAL FIRE crews spent part of this weekend completing readiness drills. Ten firefighters trained at the Butte College Facility reviewing the basics on hose lays and engine pump operations. CAL FIRE conducts such drills several times a month. CAL FIRE employs over 2,500 seasonal firefighters, volunteers make up another 2,700.
CAL FIRE responds to small fuel leak at Oroville Airport
Oroville fire crews and a CAL FIRE "HazMat team" responded to a gas leak at the Oroville Airport. On Saturday, a pilot at the airport noticed a small leak coming from a line at the gas pump that fuels airplanes. Crews arrived on the scene and patched the line from the tank with an absorbent material that could catch any excess gas.
