Officials search for man who fell in Feather River at Oroville Fish Hatchery

Oroville Fire and CAL FIRE conducted an extensive search for a person reported missing in Feather River, near the Oroville Fish Hatchery.

This happened Tuesday, Aug. 20, CAL FIRE said the search extended all the way from the Feather River Fish hatchery to Riverbend Park but they were unable to find anyone.

Dive teams recovered the body of the missing man on Shasta Lake

The search for a missing man after a day boating on Shasta Lake is over. Shasta County Sheriff's Dive teams recovered the body of the victim from the water. Crews found the man around 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, near Packers Point. The victim was found about 79 feet below the surface.

He had been missing since Sunday, Aug. 18 after jumping into the water. His identification will not be released until the family is notified.

Whiskeytown National Recreation area closed two ponds for toxic algae

The Whiskeytown National Recreation area has confirmed toxic algae bloom in two ponds. This is the "second pond" just west of the visitor center and north of Highway 299, and grizzly gulch, north of oak bottom. The park service said the bacteria can be harmful to people and their pets, the area is now closed off. Whiskeytown Lake is not affected.

Oroville votes against changing city council meeting time

Oroville City Council decided against voting on changing their meeting times. The meeting times will remain unchanged - at 6 p.m. Tuesday nights. The city council was considering changing the meeting times to 2 p.m. so that council members would not have to stay for overtime. Oroville city council is not planning to bring this topic up again.

People living in State Assembly District one must mail in their votes

People living in State Assembly District One planning to vote need to make sure the county knows where you are located. There's one open seat for district one, and the election is next Tuesday, Aug. 27 but the vote is by mail-in ballots only. This is the first time the county has only offered a mail-in option for voting.

CAL FIRE crews created an open channel to prevent flooding

CAL FIRE inmate crews worked to clear brush from rock creek off of Wilson Landing Road in North Chico on Aug. 20. This will create a clear, open channel and helps prevent flooding in North Chico and the Nord area.
