Hazmat investigation closed downtown Chico Jack in the Box

A hazmat investigation closed the downtown Chico Jack in the Box restaurant overnight. This happened around 12:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. Crews said it appeared to be bear mace sprayed on a wall. The restaurant is now back open. There is no word yet on a suspect.

Authorities identify body found in Feather River 

Authorities have identified a body found in the Feather River in Yuba City as Jacob Gonzales, who is suspected of murdering Katherine Cunningham in Washington last year. Deputies said there are no signs of foul play in his death at this time.

Modoc County declares state of emergency due to storm damage

Modoc County is declaring a state of emergency after all the recent storm damage. The county office of emergency services has sent the proclamation to the state.

Chico City Council discusses budget, housing bill, price gouging, cannabis committee

The Chico City Council discussed key issues Tuesday night, including the proposed budget for the next fiscal year. They voted n* to support a bill aimed at speeding up housing projects after the Camp Fire. They voted in favor of prohibiting price gouging after the Camp Fire. Council members were also appointed to the city's new Cannabis Advisory Committee.

Redding man arrested for threatening people with gun

John Bartholomew was arrested by Redding police for threatening people with a gun on Robert Court at around 5 p.m. on Tuesday night. Police found him with a gun and a fully loaded magazine. He has been booked into the Shasta County jail.

CDC and CHP focus on teen-driver safety training

The CDC and California Highway Patrol released statistics that show how accident are the leading cause of death among teenagers. Now, the agency is working to better educate teen drivers. It's all part of their start smart class.

Meeting set to discuss proposed Eaton Road Roundabout

Community members can learn more about a planned roundabout in north Chico and a meeting Wednesday night. The roundabout will be at the intersection of Highway 99's on and off ramps as well as the overpass and Hick's Lane. The public meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday night at the Old Municipal Building.
